WISE at WON Leadership Summit_

October 2021

Last month, Steering Committee members LaTavia Bowens, Jessica Esparza and Taylor VanSickle attended the WON Leadership Summit in Chicago, IL. The one-day summit focused on building new chapters for change by women, for women and of women. It also featured educational sessions, a keynote conversation, and professional development opportunities for summit attendees.

We asked our WISE attendees to share their key takeaways from the summit. Bowens says that one of the most beneficial takeaways from the summit is "leaning into fear–the fear of the unknown, taking it and owning it as a part of your growth process."

VanSickle remarked, "my favorite educational topic covered was called Stand Up–Women Supporting Other Women, led by Shelly Westall. This discussion focused on the importance and business case for diversity in executive teams."

Esparza says, "one key takeaway from this summit was understanding that you don't have to be in a position of influence to have influence. Be bold and take the lead. It's paramount that as WISE, we understand how to drive organizational change in creating a more equitable working environment. We must protect our non-negotiables and allocate time to what needs to change."
