Happy Pride Month_

June 2021

Pride month honors and celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community. But do you know why Pride is celebrated in June? In New York City on June 28, 1969, a gay club was raided leading to a weeklong of riots and protests, referred to as the Stonewall Uprising.

Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera are widely recognized as revolutionaries who played a pivotal role in the groundbreaking Stonewall protests that sparked an increase in LGTQIA+ activism.

Johnson and Rivera dedicated their lives to advocacy for equal rights. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the work of Johnson and Rivera.

“No Pride for some of us without liberation for all of us”

—Marsha P. Johsnon
